A change in weather conditions is likely across Delhi and adjoining NCR areas, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting light rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds over the next several days.
The weather agency expects Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad to experience increased cloud cover and isolated precipitation as a result of atmospheric systems currently active over northern India.
The IMD forecasts that Delhi’s daytime temperature will reach around 37 degrees Celsius on June 22, while nighttime temperatures will remain near 27 degrees Celsius.
The weather department expects similar conditions on June 23, with temperatures ranging between 26 and 37 degrees Celsius.
On June 24 and June 25, temperatures could climb slightly, with daytime highs reaching 38 degrees Celsius.
Persistent cloud cover will help keep extreme heat away from the region.
Meteorological experts have suggested that the southwest monsoon may arrive in the national capital later than its traditional schedule.
According to weather specialists, the monsoon’s movement across several parts of the country has been slower this season, leaving many regions awaiting its onset.
Meteorologists emphasised that western disturbances, rather than monsoon activity, have triggered the recent spells of rain and thunderstorms in Delhi.
Forecasters expect the southwest monsoon to reach Delhi in early July, instead of around its usual arrival date of June 27.
The country continues to face a significant shortfall in rainfall during June.
Data released by the IMD showed that India received 51.5 mm of rainfall between June 1 and June 19. The long-term average for the same period stands at 86.7 mm. The latest rainfall figure remains significantly below the normal level.
Delhi has also recorded lower-than-normal rainfall this month. The city received just 22.7 mm of rain between June 1 and June 20. The figure remains well below both the seasonal average and last year’s level.
Air quality across the capital remained unsatisfactory despite expectations of rainfall.
Several monitoring stations reported AQI readings in the poor category. Localities such as Anand Vihar, Wazirpur, IIT Delhi and Pusa recorded relatively high pollution levels. These areas ranked among the most polluted locations in the city.
