Delhi-NCR Weather: IMD Forecasts Rain, Thunderstorms And Gusty Winds Till June 4

Residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are expected to receive further relief from the summer heat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across the region over the next few days.

The weather conditions are likely to continue until June 4, helping maintain relatively cooler temperatures.

The IMD issued a yellow alert for Delhi on Tuesday, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, light rain and strong winds of up to 50 kmph.

Meteorologists expect the weather pattern to keep daytime temperatures below 40°C until at least June 6.

Delhi also recorded one of its coolest starts to June in recent years, with Safdarjung registering a maximum temperature of 36.3°C on June 1.

The IMD said conditions have turned favourable for the onset of the southwest monsoon over Kerala within the next two to three days, with further advancement expected across parts of the Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

In addition, the IMD expects the monsoon to progress into more areas of the Bay of Bengal, including its southwest, west-central, east-central and northeastern regions.

The annual monsoon season typically begins around June 1 before gradually spreading across the country.

Beyond Delhi-NCR, the IMD has forecast thunderstorms, lightning, rainfall and gusty winds across several northern, eastern, central and southern states during the week.

The expected showers are likely to provide much-needed relief from high temperatures, improve weather conditions and support the gradual arrival of the monsoon across different parts of India.
