Delhi-NCR Braces For More Rain As IMD Extends Yellow Alert

Delhi-NCR experienced heavy rainfall on Wednesday morning as monsoon activity intensified across the region, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to maintain a Yellow Alert for the national capital.

The weather department has forecast more rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over the next five days, with wet weather conditions expected to continue until at least July 13.

According to the IMD, Delhi will witness generally cloudy skies on Wednesday and Thursday, accompanied by intermittent spells of light rain and isolated moderate showers.

The IMD has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and winds of 30-40 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 50 kmph.

The weather agency said rainfall of varying intensity is likely over the coming days, keeping temperatures in check while increasing the possibility of localised waterlogging and traffic congestion.

Neighbouring Gurugram continued to grapple with the aftermath of heavy monsoon showers, which caused widespread flooding, waterlogging and severe traffic disruptions across several parts of the city.

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and strong winds in Delhi on July 9, followed by another spell of light rain at night.

From July 10, the weather department is expected to issue a Green Alert, although cloudy skies, light rain, thunderstorms and lightning may continue through July 11.

The IMD has urged residents to stay alert during thunderstorms and strong winds, avoid sheltering under trees during lightning, and follow official weather advisories as unstable monsoon conditions persist across Delhi-NCR.
