Delhi Air Quality Remains Poor As IMD Issues Yellow Fog Alert

The national capital continues to grapple with poor air quality, with several monitoring stations recording Air Quality Index (AQI) levels above 300, signalling deteriorating conditions in parts of the city.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 334, Jahangirpuri 337, Chandni Chowk 312, Rohini 311, Patparganj 306, and Dwarka Sector-8 317, placing these areas in the ‘very poor’ category.

Other locations, including Bawana (288), Burari Crossing (264), Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (282), Narela (244), North Campus (260), and IIT Delhi (210), also reported ‘poor’ air quality levels.

Meteorological Department Issues Fog Advisory

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for moderate fog across Delhi on Thursday.

Shallow to moderate fog is expected during morning hours over the next six days, except on 31 January and 1 February.

The weather department forecasts temperatures in the capital to range between 7°C and 18°C, with generally cloudy skies and expects light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph on 31 January.

The Sub-Committee on the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) under the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) recently revoked all Stage III actions in Delhi-NCR, citing partial improvement due to strong winds and rainfall. Nevertheless, health experts continue to advise residents to wear masks and limit outdoor exposure to mitigate the effects of pollution.

While conditions show some improvement, persistent air pollution and fog pose challenges for residents, particularly vulnerable groups, as Delhi navigates through winter smog and low visibility.
