CNG Gets Costlier In Delhi-NCR: How Much More Will You Pay From Today?

CNG consumers across Delhi-NCR will now have to pay more after the latest increase in compressed natural gas prices came into effect from 6 AM on Saturday, August 29.

The price in Delhi has climbed from Rs 83.09 per kg to Rs 86.98 per kg, marking an increase of Rs 3.89 per kg.

In Noida and Ghaziabad, the revised rate stands at Rs 95.59 per kg, while consumers in Gurugram will pay Rs 92.01 per kg. The price in Meerut has also been raised to Rs 95.47 per kg.

The latest increase comes amid a sharp rise in international liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices.

Global gas markets have faced additional pressure following renewed tensions in West Asia. The tensions have affected cargo movements through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Asia-JKM LNG benchmark has climbed significantly in recent months, while European TTF gas prices have also risen substantially.

Preparations for the winter season in Europe have added further competition for available LNG supplies, contributing to higher international prices.

The CNG price increase will raise operating expenses for vehicles that rely heavily on the fuel.

Auto-rickshaw drivers, taxi operators, app-based cab services and commercial vehicle owners across Delhi-NCR are likely to face higher daily fuel bills.

Private car owners using CNG will also see an increase in their monthly fuel expenditure. Higher running costs could also put additional pressure on freight and passenger transport fares.

The latest revision marks the fifth CNG price hike by IGL this year and the first increase since May.

Earlier, the company had raised prices in phases as global energy costs continued to rise.

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), which supplies CNG across Delhi-NCR, said international LNG prices remain significantly high.

The company stated that the latest Rs 3.89-per-kg increase would partially offset higher input gas costs. It said the move would help maintain a reliable supply of CNG to consumers.
