Pakistani social media sensation and singer Chahat Fateh Ali Khan released a new patriotic track titled Meray Watan Meray Chaman shortly after a recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
However, the song intended as a heartfelt tribute quickly became the subject of widespread mockery online, thanks to its unconventional delivery and over-the-top presentation.
Rather than being embraced as a nationalistic anthem, the song prompted a flood of jokes and memes.
One user quipped, “Pakistan just attacked India this song is worse than a nuclear bomb. I give up. I surrender!”
Others joined in with sarcastic remarks, including: “Watan and chaman both upgraded,” and “Aliens are more beautiful than him.”
In a particularly humorous twist, one post read: “India should fight back with singers like Dhinchak Pooja. Our ‘Singer-400 Defence System’ is ready!”
Renowned Indian composer and Grammy Award-winner Ricky Kej also weighed in.
Describing the song as a complete ‘horror’, Kej echoed the sentiment of many social media users who found the release unintentionally comedic.
Responding to the viral sensation, internet users began sharing spoof videos and exaggerated performances as ‘musical counterattacks’.
One clip featured a woman singing with the satirical caption: “This voice is part of India’s missile defence programme.”
Chahat Fateh Ali Khan, who gained notoriety for his viral track Bado Badi, has become known for his offbeat musical style.
More recently, he stirred up attention with a cover of Punjabi singer Karan Aujla’s hit Tauba Tauba. Aujla’s response to the rendition was blunt but humorous: “Uncle, please don’t do this.”
While Meray Watan Meray Chaman may not have delivered the patriotic impact Khan intended, it has undeniably captured public attention albeit for all the wrong reasons.
As social media continues to buzz with laughter, Chahat Fateh Ali Khan once again finds himself at the centre of an internet storm.
