Another Day, Another Hike: IGL Raises CNG Prices Again In Delhi-NCR

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices in the Delhi-NCR region have increased once again, with Indraprastha Gas Limited announcing a fresh hike of Re 1 per kg on Sunday across its supply network.

After the latest revision, CNG in Delhi is now priced at Rs 80.09 per kg, moving beyond the Rs 80 level for the first time. Consumers in Noida and Ghaziabad will now pay Rs 88.70 per kg.

The revision comes only two days after the company had already increased CNG prices by Rs 2 per kg on May 15. At that stage, the retail rate in Delhi had reached Rs 79.09 per kg.

The consecutive hikes are likely to increase operating expenses for motorists, taxi services and public transport systems that rely heavily on CNG across the National Capital Region.

The rise in gas prices has come alongside recent increases in petrol and diesel rates announced by the Central government earlier this month.

Petrol prices in Delhi went up by about Rs 3 per litre, while diesel rates also saw an increase of nearly Rs 3 per litre.

At present, petrol dealers are selling petrol in the capital at Rs 97.77 per litre and diesel at Rs 90.67 per litre.

Global energy market pressures have contributed significantly to the latest revisions. International crude prices have remained elevated due to tensions in West Asia and disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global oil and gas shipments.

Centre Defends Fuel Price Rise

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju defended the domestic fuel price adjustments, stating that India has kept increases relatively moderate compared with several other countries.

According to him, petrol and diesel prices in India rose by around 3 per cent, while many nations experienced far sharper jumps.

Rijiju also said public sector oil companies had absorbed substantial financial pressure for several weeks despite Brent crude crossing $100 per barrel, helping reduce the wider inflationary impact on consumers.
