Samsung co-CEOs Highlight AI As Core Growth Driver In New Year Address

Samsung Electronics’ co-chief executive officers on Friday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities as competition intensifies across the global technology and semiconductor sectors.

In their New Year messages to employees, Samsung’s top leadership identified AI as a key pillar of the company’s long-term strategy, stressing the need to drive innovation across chips, consumer devices and digital services to maintain its global leadership position.

Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman and CEO Jun Young-hyun, who heads the Device Solutions (DS) division overseeing semiconductor operations, highlighted the unprecedented surge in global demand for AI chips.

He further emphasised that Samsung must respond swiftly to changing market dynamics fuelled by the rapid expansion of AI technologies.

Jun noted that Samsung holds a unique competitive edge as the only chipmaker globally capable of offering a comprehensive one-stop solution encompassing logic chips, memory, foundry services and advanced packaging.

This integrated capability, he said, places the company in a strong position in the global AI race.

He further stressed the importance of developing AI solutions specifically tailored for semiconductor innovation.

By combining advanced AI technology with high-quality data, Samsung aims to apply AI across chip design, research and development, production processes and quality management to achieve technological breakthroughs.

Jun also highlighted the company’s progress in the high-bandwidth memory (HBM4) segment, stating that Samsung’s HBM4 business has demonstrated strong competitiveness in the global market.

He urged employees to continue strengthening technological capabilities to enhance resilience against market volatility and geopolitical uncertainties.

Embedding AI Across Consumer Devices and Services

President Roh Tae-moon, the co-CEO overseeing the Device Experience (DX) division responsible for mobile phones, televisions and home appliances, stressed the need to embed AI deeply across Samsung’s entire product ecosystem.

“The DX division must deliver the best possible customer experiences by closely integrating AI technology into all devices and service platforms,” Roh said.

He further described AI transformation as a fundamental shift in how the company thinks and operates, rather than merely a technological upgrade.

In a separate New Year message, Samsung SDI CEO Choi Joo-sun encouraged employees to adopt a mindset of ‘pessimistic optimism’ in 2026, acknowledging challenges while remaining prepared for future opportunities.

Together, the messages underline Samsung’s strong focus on AI-driven growth, technological leadership and long-term resilience in an increasingly competitive global market.
