MuskyTweet: Join Only If Asked

In the email, Twitter stated that all credential access would be halted and that its offices would be temporarily shuttered.

Twitter sent an internal email to all of its workers informing them of the layoffs.

Following a week of uncertainty on the company’s future under new owner Elon Musk, Twitter will inform employees through email on Friday about whether they have been laid off, temporarily shutting its headquarters, and restricting staff access.

The social network business informed its workforce through email that it will notify workers by 9 a.m. announcing employee reductions on Friday at noon PDT (1600 GMT).

The email, obtained by Reuters, stated that “in an effort to put Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the unpleasant process of decreasing our worldwide staff on Friday.”

To “help safeguard the safety of each employee as well as Twitter systems and customer data,” Twitter stated its offices will be temporarily closed and all credential access will be halted.

Twitter workers who are not affected by the layoffs will be informed via their company email accounts, according to the social media network.

The message stated that employees who have been let go will receive information on the following steps at their personal emails.

The announcement of layoffs brings to an end a week of purges by Musk during which he sought significant cost reductions and enforced a combative new work ethic throughout the social media giant.

He had previously fired the CEO and the top financial and legal officials from the corporation, rebuilding the senior echelons. Over the course of the previous week, several executives left, including those in charge of the company’s marketing, advertising, and human resources departments.

The long-anticipated layoffs have cooled Twitter’s renowned open corporate culture, which is admired by its staff.

Hundreds of users flocked to the company’s Slack channels to say farewell shortly after the email arrived in Twitter employees’ inboxes, two employees told Reuters. The sources said that Musk was invited to join the channel.

Please go home if you are in or heading to a workplace, Twitter said in an email on Thursday.

According to two persons familiar with the situation and an internal Slack message seen by Reuters, Musk has also instructed Twitter Inc.’s teams to find up to $1 billion in annual infrastructure cost savings.
