Meta is reportedly preparing for a fresh round of job reductions that could impact a significant portion of its workforce, according to recent reports.
The company, led by Mark Zuckerberg, will likely begin layoffs as early as next month, with an initial phase potentially affecting around 10 per cent of its global employees. This could translate to roughly 8,000 roles based on its current staff strength.
Reports indicate that further cuts may follow later in the year, though the scale and timing of those measures remain unclear.
Total job reductions could eventually reach 20 per cent or more of Meta’s workforce, according to some estimates. The company had about 79,000 employees at the end of last year.
The company has not officially confirmed these plans and has declined to comment on the reports so far.
Shifting priorities around artificial intelligence are driving the expected restructuring. Major technology firms continue to invest heavily in automation. They are also investing in advanced AI systems.
The developments come amid a broader wave of layoffs across the global technology sector. Industry data suggests that more than 80,000 jobs were cut in the first quarter of 2026 alone, with total losses projected to cross 300,000 by the end of the year.
Companies such as Oracle and Amazon have already announced large-scale workforce reductions, citing restructuring and efficiency measures.
Oracle has reportedly eliminated over 25,000 roles, while Amazon has cut around 16,000 jobs.
The trend reflects a longer-term adjustment following rapid hiring during the Covid-19 pandemic. Firms are now streamlining operations and focusing on emerging technologies.
Artificial intelligence, in particular, has driven a substantial share of job losses this year.
The United States continues to account for the majority of layoffs globally. Tens of thousands of roles are affected. Companies are realigning their business strategies in response to changing market conditions.
