Explained: Where India Ranks Among The World’s Most Expensive Countries To Buy An iPhone

India is often considered one of the costliest markets to buy Apple’s latest iPhones. A new global price comparison, however, suggests several countries charge even more for the iPhone 17 Pro (256GB).

According to data compiled by Deutsche Bank and analysed by Visual Capitalist, Turkey is the world’s most expensive market for Apple’s flagship smartphone in 2026.

The iPhone 17 Pro is priced at $2,592 there, making it around 219 per cent more expensive than in the United States.

Analysts attribute the steep price to high import duties, taxes and local economic conditions.

The study compared iPhone 17 Pro prices across 41 markets. It found that Japan remains the most affordable country to buy the device.

In India, Apple has priced the iPhone 17 Pro (256GB) at Rs 134,900. Although the price is about 121 per cent higher than the US retail price, India ranks 23rd among the 41 countries included in the comparison, placing it in the middle of the global price table rather than among the most expensive markets.

The findings highlight that Apple’s global pricing strategy is only one factor influencing the final retail price.

Local taxes, customs duties, exchange rates and country-specific regulations significantly affect what consumers ultimately pay.

The report also notes that these rankings are not fixed.

Changes in taxation, currency movements and import policies can alter smartphone prices over time. As a result, the rankings could look very different in the future.
