Apple Prepares 12th-Gen Entry-Level iPad For 2026 Launch

Apple is reportedly working on a refreshed version of its entry-level iPad, with plans to release the 12th-generation model as early as March or April 2026.

While the tech giant has not officially confirmed the launch, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported that development is underway, with more details expected in the coming months.

Apple will reportedly retain the overall design of the 11th-generation iPad, which it launched in March 2024, for the upcoming model. However, Apple is likely to upgrade the internal hardware to deliver improved performance.

Reports suggest the new chip will surpass the A16 Bionic processor used in the current model, delivering better speed and efficiency for everyday tasks.

According to the report, Apple is developing two versions of the iPad, codenamed J581 and J582. Though Apple hasn’t revealed specific differences, it may vary these models by storage capacity or regional configurations.

The current iPad is available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB options, and Apple may update this lineup based on consumer trends or cost optimisation.

Launch timeline and pricing

The 11th-generation iPad was launched at a starting price of $349 in the United States. Gurman’s sources indicate that Apple may aim for a similar price point with the 12th-gen iPad, especially if external changes are minimal.

However, depending on the new chip and internal upgrades, a slight price revision is also possible.

The projected spring launch suggests a quicker refresh cycle for the entry-level iPad, which could reflect Apple’s strategy to keep budget offerings competitive, particularly in education and emerging markets, where the device remains highly popular.

What to expect from the new iPad?

Apple’s base iPad continues to serve a wide audience, from students and families to users seeking a reliable tablet for casual tasks.

While high-end iPads such as the Pro and Air series push innovation in design and features, the entry-level model focuses on value and accessibility.

The addition of a faster chip could make the 12th-gen iPad more appealing, especially for digital learning, media consumption, and light productivity.

As of now, Apple has made no official announcement about the device, but industry watchers expect more concrete details to emerge in early 2026, closer to the expected launch window.
