The Khelo India women’s wushu league’s northern zonal round, which takes place at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports in Patiala from July 9 to 13, will get a lot of interest from international wushu players Ayeera Chisti and Komal Nagar.
There will be 350 athletes competing in the sub-junior, junior, and senior categories at the North Zonal event, which includes Taolu (forms) and Sanda (fighting).
Wushu players from Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Himachal, and Uttarakhand are welcome to compete.
The North Zonal event is taking place following the South Zonal event that took place in Karnataka last month. Following the four zone competitions, there will be a national ranking championship.
The Wushu Federation of India’s competition, which offers a prize money of Rs 7.2 lakh, is funded by the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The top eight wushu competitors in the sub-junior, junior, and senior divisions will receive cash incentives.
The NSNIS Patiala center is home to international medallists Ayeera (18 years old) and Komal (19 years old), among other players who hope to achieve success in the women’s wushu league.
“I am very excited to play in my home ground here in my third Khelo India women’s wushu league, having won gold in the last two championships,” said Ayeera, who debuted in this competition in 2022.
“The Khelo India Women’s league gives us a good playfield for our performance assessment, understand flaws in our game and areas to work on,” said Chandigarh’s Komal, who started learning self-defence techniques when she was 14.
