In a world cup warm up match held today at Thiruvananthapuram between Australia and the Netherlands, a hat-trick was recorded by the Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc. The match was played at the Greenfield International Stadium.

Starc’s victims included opener Max O’Dowd, Wesley Berresi and Bas de Leede. However, he needed two overs to achieve this. In the first over of the Netherlands innings, Starc had Max O’Dowd and Wesley Berresi of his fifth and sixth deliveries. While Bas de Leede was his victim of his first delivery in the team’s third over.
Max O’Dowd was lbw while Wesley Berresi and Bas de Leede were being castled. Unfortunately, the hat-trick won’t be recorded as it wasn’t an official match. The match was reduced to 23 overs per team due to rain. Australia, batting first put up a total of 166 for the loss of 7 wickets. Netherlands were tottering at 6/84 at the end of 15 overs before rain intervened once more and resulted the match as a washout.

Steve Smith scored a brisk knock of 55(42) while Cameron Green also coming good scoring 34(26) in the Australian innings. Starc celebrated his hat-trick just with a smile. Australia next play Pakistan in their final warm-up match on Tuesday at Hyderabad.
