Women Power in Mumbai: Premier League 2023 is set to be held in March

The first-ever season of the Women’s Premier League will be played from March 4 onwards, with the final scheduled for March 26. In an email sent to all 5 WPL sides on Monday 6th February, the BCCI confirmed that two Mumbai venues, namely Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium.
BCCI CEO Hemang Amin also verified in the email that the player’s auction will take place in Mumbai on February 13. Continuing that Amin said that 1,500 players have registered for it. The final list will be released later this week. A maximum of 90 players can be bought in the auction, with each squad having 15-18 players each. The starting date is March 4, WPL will start eight days after the finale of the ICCI Women’s T20 World Cup on February 26 in South Africa. The auction will also be taking place on February 13, which is three days after starting of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. A total of 22 games will be played in the first-ever Women Premium League.

The five franchises were acquired by the owners of the three IPL teams- Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals along with Adani Group and Capri Global for a total of INR 4669.99 crore. This depicts the largest deal ever made in women’s cricket. The successful bidders were announced on January 25.
