Officials from the ICC held a video conference with the BCB on Tuesday to discuss Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup 2026.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board stated, “A video conference between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) was held this afternoon to discuss the participation of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.”
During the session, the ICC reminded the BCB that it had already finalised the tournament schedule and asked the board to reconsider its stance.
Nevertheless, the BCB maintained its position, citing the safety of players, officials, and staff as a top priority.
Representatives from the BCB included President Md Aminul Islam. They also included Vice Presidents Md Shakawath Hossain and Faruque Ahmed.
The Director and Chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee, Nazmul Abedeen, was present. Additionally, Chief Executive Officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury attended the meeting.
They emphasised that their decision not to travel to India remains unchanged. They also reiterated their appeal for the ICC to relocate Bangladesh’s matches elsewhere.
Officials stressed that safeguarding the well-being of players and staff is paramount.
The board confirmed that it continues to engage constructively with the ICC to explore potential solutions while maintaining its firm stance.
The focus remains on ensuring a secure environment for all participants, highlighting the board’s responsibility towards its team.
Both the ICC and BCB agreed to continue talks in the coming weeks to try to find a resolution. The ICC, however, pointed out the logistical challenges involved in altering the tournament itinerary at this stage.
The ICC will finalise its decision soon. It will keep the World Cup schedule unchanged, with only weeks remaining before the tournament.
Observers note that the situation underscores the delicate balance between international cricket commitments and security considerations.
The BCB’s firm stance reflects its commitment to player safety, leaving fans and stakeholders closely watching developments ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
