Sanjay Bangar feels Virat Kohli's dismal run in the ongoing T20 World Cup is not a worrying sign as it is the "calm before the storm".
Former India cricketer Sanjay Bangar believes that Virat Kohli’s recent poor performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup should not raise concern, viewing it as a phase before a potential comeback. Kohli, who has opened alongside Rohit Sharma in this tournament, struggled with scores of 1 against Ireland, 4 against Pakistan, and a duck versus the USA on a challenging New York pitch. Bangar pointed out that this is Kohli’s first time opening in an ICC T20 World Cup, emphasizing the unforgiving nature of opening where mistakes are costly.
With India relocating to Florida for their final group match against Canada, Bangar suggested that Kohli could find his form before the Super Eight stage. He remarked, “There is nothing to worry about and maybe it is the calm before the storm.”
Bangar’s sentiments were supported by former spinner Piyush Chawla, who praised Kohli’s aggressive form despite the difficult conditions. Chawla expressed confidence that Kohli would shut the doors for his critics with a substantial innings. Making more emphasis over Kohli’s ability to bounce back strongly after a few low-scoring matches.

Chawla further praising Kohli’s ability stated, “Against Ireland, his intent was very clear despite the challenging pitch as Virat knew he had to dominate. There was a lot of movement from pitch but his intent was special to me. On pitches like that if you show such intent that tells how positive you are as a batter. For me, it is not concerning because batters who do not have form look different. When Virat does not score in two-three innings, he scores a big century.”
India have advanced to the Super Eight stage of the tournament after three consecutive wins in Group A along with the co-hosts USA. Pakistan, Canada, and Ireland failed to reach the second stage and their campaigns will end with the culmination of the group stage round.
