Suryakumar Yadav Faces Backlash Amid His Performance, Rohit Sharma Backs Him

The T20 star of the Indian squad, Suryakumar Yadav is going through a tough phase as he is struggling to put bat to ball in the ODI match. On Wednesday, Suryakumar was out on the first-ball 0 in the series finale of the 3-match ODI series in Chennai.

Shockingly, it was the third consecutive time Suryakumar Yadav got out for a golden duck in the ongoing ODI series. The T20’s No. 1 player, Kumar set an unwanted record as he became the first Indian batter to be dismissed for first-ball ducks in all matches of an ODI series.

Rohit Sharma backs Suryakumar

Ahead of Yadav’s performance, Indian captain Rohit Sharma said that Suryakumar Yadav is just going through a rough phase at the moment and claimed that the middle-order batter was unfortunate to register three golden ducks in a row against Australia.

Speaking at a press conference after the third ODI, Rohit Sharma said that there isn’t too much to read into Suryakumar’s performance as he played only three deliveries. The India captain did say that the 32-year-old chose the wrong shot against Agar in the series decider.

He said, “He played only three balls in the series. I don’t know how much you can look into it. He got three good balls. Today, (Wednesday) I didn’t think it was that great a ball. He just chose the wrong shot. He should have, maybe, come forward. He knows best.”

“He plays spin so well, which is why we wanted to hold him back and give him that role of last 15-20 overs. But it’s really unfortunate that he could only play three balls in the series. That can happen to anyone. The potential, and the quality are always there. He’s just going through that phase right now,” said the Indian captain added.
