The venues that did not receive games for the ODI World Cup will be given an opportunity to host 50-over games during the ensuing home season.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah proposed that World Cup sites give up their turn to host ODI games in a home season to compensate state units that did not host the prestigious ICC event.
Shah notified state units that his idea had been unanimously supported by officials from eight World Cup venues, including Delhi, Dharamsala, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Lucknow, in a letter.
Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram, which will only hold warm-up games for the World Cup, will, however, host matches in the future season.
Prior to the World Cup schedule announcement earlier this week, Shah met with state entities.
“During our meeting, I proposed a solution to ensure a fair distribution of matches for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023”, Jay Shah said.
“With the exception of Assam and Kerala, who were assigned warm-up matches, I asked the hosting associations to willingly renounce their chance to host an ODI during the bilateral international season”, Shah continued.
“This proposal was put forth to accommodate the state associations that unfortunately missed out on hosting Cricket World Cup matches”, Jay Shah explained.
“I am pleased to inform you that the proposal was met with unanimous agreement and support from all participating associations”, Shah added.
From October 5 to November 19, India will host the World Cup.
Except for Hyderabad, all major venues will host five games of the ICC 50-over showcase.
Before holding three main matches beginning on October 6, Hyderabad will host two warm-up games involving Pakistan.
Pakistan will play two league games in Uppal’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
