Sports Authority of India approves establishment of Khelo India State Centre of Excellence in Union Territory of Ladakh

Leh, 17 Oct: The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has approved the proposal of the Department of Youth Services & Sports, UT Ladakh, for the establishment of Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) in the Sports viz, Athletics, Boxing, & Archery Discipline. The newly constructed Open Stadium at Spituk, Leh, has been identified as the venue for the establishment of the Excellence Centre after a Technical Evaluation by an expert committee. The Centre shall have all the required technical manpower like a High-Performance Director, Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Physiologist, Nutritionist, Masseur, Doctor/ sports injury Management team, Yoga instructor, Physiotherapist & and conditioning Experts. Also, Sports Science equipment’s (Archery, athletics and Boxings) have been sanctioned for the Excellence Centre. The Total cost of funding sanctioned for the Excellence Centre is Rs 3.139 Crores for 2023-24 Financial Year & Rs. 1.195 crore for the subsequent years.

An MoU, between SAI & Department of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, shall be signed soon, along with an Advertisement for the various posts and procurement of sports items. Moreover, with the establishment of KISCE, for the first time scientific/ latest approach towards the development of Sports in UT Ladakh shall be done & and it shall serve as a platform for the young emerging talents to excel in the field of Sports. A selection trial shall soon be conducted for enrolling/admission in the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence. Apart from the KISCE, Khelo India Center (small) for ice hockey, archery, athletics, table tennis and football have already been sanctioned and functional at various centres across the Union Territory of Ladakh. Secretary, Youth Services and Sports Ravinder Kumar congratulated all the sportspersons and youth of Ladakh on this development.
