Shubman Gill To Lead India In Afghanistan ODIs As Prince Yadav Earns Maiden Call-Up

India has announced their squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, appointing Shubman Gill as captain and Shreyas Iyer as his deputy.

The schedule places the matches in Dharamshala, Lucknow and Chennai on June 14, 17 and 20.

Selectors have included newcomers Prince Yadav, Harsh Dubey and Gurnoor Brar, offering them their first chance in ODI cricket. Their recent performances have earned them recognition at the national level.

Selectors have included veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the squad, though Rohit’s availability depends on his recovery from a hamstring injury sustained during IPL 202

All-rounder Hardik Pandya also awaits fitness clearance after missing recent matches due to back issues.

Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been recalled to the ODI side, replacing Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar stated that Pant remains a crucial member of the Test team despite his absence from this squad.

Consistent performances earned Prince Yadav a place in the squad, while the selectors left out Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, Axar Patel and Ayush Badoni.

The bowling unit features Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Brar and Prince in the pace department, while Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav and Dubey provide spin options, ensuring balance in the squad.

The selection reflects India’s strategy of preparing for the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup by blending emerging talent with experienced players.
