India will kick off their three-match T20I assignment against Zimbabwe on Thursday at Harare Sports Club, with the visitors determined to recover from a disappointing run of results under captain Shreyas Iyer.
Iyer enters the series with growing expectations after India lost successive T20I series against Ireland and England.
Despite enjoying an impressive run with the bat in England, where he accumulated 218 runs at a strike rate of 157.97, the skipper will now focus on delivering improved results as captain.
Young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is set to receive another opportunity at the top of the batting order in Sanju Samson’s absence.
The teenager returns to Harare, where he produced a memorable performance during the Under-19 World Cup final, and will be keen to put his difficult England tour behind him.
India have also recalled Rinku Singh after his impressive finish to the IPL 2026 season. The visitors will further assess the potential of fast bowlers Mayank Yadav, Ashok Sharma and Yash Thakur as they continue building a new-look pace attack.
Zimbabwe will enter the contest with confidence under the leadership of Sikandar Raza following encouraging performances against Bangladesh on home soil.
Fast bowlers Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava will spearhead Zimbabwe’s pace attack, while Wessly Madhevere and Newman Nyamhuri strengthen the squad following their return.
Date: Thursday, July 23
Time: 04:30 PM IST
Venue: Harare Sports Club, Harare
Fans can watch the opening T20I live on Unite8 Sports channels, while live streaming will be available on the FanCode app and website.
India will aim to rediscover winning form, while Zimbabwe will look to use home advantage and deliver a strong performance in the series opener.
