Reports Claim Recovery Of Hardik Pandya From Injury Amidst Rumors Of Player To Skip IPL, Afghanistan Series

All-rounder Hardik Pandya of India will skipper the team in the home T20I series against Afghanistan after recovering from an ankle injury he suffered during the 2023 World Cup. According to a previous source, Pandya was questionable for the next Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) as well as the T20Is. But according to insiders, the all-rounder is healthy once more and prepared to play Afghanistan in the Twenty20 Internationals.

“He has completely recovered from his ankle injury. He has been training every day,” souce to Times of India. The source also confirmed that the talks of him missin the T20Is and IPL 2024 are just rumours and there is no truth in it.

No updates from BCCI on injury of Hardik Pandya

Regarding Pandya’s expected comeback date, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet provided an update. Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, stated earlier this month that Pandya’s fitness is regularly assessed at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Pandya is putting in a lot of effort to get well as quickly as possible, and Shah has stated that the media will be notified when he is prepared to return to the national squad.

New captain of Mumbai Indians

While fielding off his own bowling during the World Cup encounter against Bangladesh in Pune, Pandya hurt his ankle. Prasidh Krishna came on in Pandya’s stead.

Since then Pandya has been out of the national side. This month he also became headlines for a completely different reason as Mumbai Indians (MI) traded him in from Gujarat Titans (GT) in an all-cash deal. This was a first time in the history of IPL that a a league-winning captain was traded. If that move was not shocking, Pandya was named as the MI captain, replacing Rohit Sharma. The all-rounder has witnessed massive online hate online after becoming the new MI captain as fans are upset over Rohit’s removal.

India Series against Afghanistan

India’s three T20I matches against Afghanistan are extremely important because they are their last few matches before the World Cup. It’s critical that Pandya recovers faster and assumes leadership roles because he will probably captain India in the World Cup in June. From India’s perspective, it is also critical that Pandya remains healthy until the World Cup begins. His injury might give the team management a great deal of headaches. India hasn’t taken home an ICC trophy in almost a decade. Since the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, when the team captained by MS Dhoni made history in South Africa, the Men in Blue have not won the competition.
