Ravi Shastri Offers Golden Advice Amid Virat Kohli’s T20 World Cup Struggles

Virat Kohli’s struggles in the 2024 T20 World Cup have drawn scrutiny from cricketing circles, including former India coach Ravi Shastri, who shared a close bond with Kohli during his tenure. Following Kohli’s disappointing performance against England in the semi-final, Shastri suggested that Kohli should stick to his natural game instead of adopting an overly aggressive approach.

“He’s departing from his natural game too soon, especially with Rohit Sharma taking charge aggressively at the other end,” remarked Shastri on Star Sports. “Kohli’s strength lies in his orthodox approach, and he can easily recover if he spends more time at the crease.”

In the match against England, Kohli struck a six off Reece Topley in the third over but fell shortly after attempting a big shot towards mid-wicket. “When he tries to play beyond his usual style, he tends to get out in that manner,” noted Shastri. “He’s been trying to force shots that aren’t there. That sort of risk-taking is suitable when you’re in top form, not when runs are hard to come by. The key is finding rhythm.”

Despite Kohli’s struggles, his opening partner Rohit Sharma played a crucial innings, scoring a quick 57 off 39 balls. Supported by Suryakumar Yadav’s 47 off 36 deliveries and valuable contributions from others, India managed to post 171 runs on a challenging, damp Guyana pitch.

“He should have approached this game as he has for the past decade,” commented former English cricketer Nasser Hussain on Kohli’s innings.

With only 75 runs in seven innings so far, Kohli will be eager to make amends with a significant performance in the final against South Africa in Barbados on June 29, hoping to end the tournament on a high note.
