Prime Minister Modi Commends India’s Historic Achievement With 100 Asian Games Medals

India achieved a significant milestone at the 19th Asian Games in 2023 when the Indian women’s kabaddi team secured a gold medal by defeating Chinese Taipei. This victory propelled India’s total medal count past the historic 100-medal mark. Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated this remarkable achievement and conveyed his excitement while congratulating the athletes.

Modi took to Twitter to describe it as a “momentous achievement for India,” expressing, “The people of India are thrilled that we have reached a remarkable milestone of 100 medals.” He extended heartfelt congratulations to the exceptional athletes whose dedicated efforts led to this historic achievement, filling the nation with pride.

The Prime Minister also expressed his anticipation of hosting the Asian Games contingent and engaging with the athletes, emphasizing, “I look forward to hosting our Asian Games contingent on the 10th and interacting with our athletes.”

India’s medal tally includes 25 gold medals, 35 silver medals, and 40 bronze medals, earned in various sports such as wrestling, recurve archery, hockey, sepaktakraw, and bridge. Although medals had been secured in men’s cricket and both kabaddi teams earlier, the official confirmation came on Saturday.

Starting the day at 95 medals, India guaranteed an additional five medals, including four in archery and one in kabaddi, officially crossing the century mark. This achievement surpassed India’s previous best of 70 medals at the last edition of the Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018 by a considerable margin.

The Indian Air Force also joined in celebrating the athletes’ success, posting a message of congratulations on social media with the hashtag #AbKiBaar100Paar. They acknowledged the Indian contingent’s outstanding performance and praised their efforts and excellence in the field of sports.

This marks only the second instance in which India has secured over 100 medals in any of the three major international games, including the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games. The previous occasion was during the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi when India won 101 medals. The country is poised to comfortably surpass that record as three more medals are guaranteed to be added to the tally as the day progresses.
