Para Table Tennis Star Nurjahan Noorali Jamani Wins Sardar Patel Sports Award

India’s leading para table tennis player Nurjahan Noorali Jamani has added another major achievement to her sporting career after receiving the Sardar Patel Sports Award from the Government of Gujarat.

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi presented the award to Nurjahan during a ceremony in Gandhinagar on August 12.

The Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department presents the award to athletes who demonstrate exceptional sporting excellence and bring recognition to Gujarat and India.

Nurjahan was diagnosed with polio at the age of five and initially competed in para table tennis between 2007 and 2010. She subsequently spent more than a decade away from competitive sport before returning to the game in 2022.

Nurjahan’s comeback has since produced impressive results, including a successful title defence at the UTT Para Senior National Championship 2025-26 in Indore. Her performances have helped her rise to No 1 in India and No 27 in the world in her category.

Based in Ahmedabad, Nurjahan also works as a Junior Officer at Adani Airport Holdings Limited.

Through Adani Sportsline’s ‘Garv Hai’ initiative, Nurjahan receives support covering coaching guidance, tournament planning, performance monitoring and international competition requirements.

Nurjahan said the latest honour has encouraged her to set higher targets while continuing to represent India with pride.

Sanjay Adesara, Chief Business Officer of Adani Sportsline, praised her determination and resilience and congratulated her on the recognition.

Nurjahan is now preparing for the 2026 Asian Para Games in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, scheduled from October 18 to 24. She will aim to secure qualification and build on her recent achievements as she seeks another opportunity to contribute to India’s growing success in para sport.
