On December 9, 165 players will be up for auction in the Women’s Premier League

The player auction for the Women’s Premier League, which is scheduled to take place in Mumbai on December 9, could see up to 165 players put up for bid. The WPL’s second edition might happen in February or March of the following year. “Of the 165 players, 104 are from India and 61 are international cricket players, 15 of whom are from associate countries. There are 109 uncapped players and 56 capped players overall, according to a statement released by BCCI on Saturday.

“A maximum of 30 slots are available with the five teams, with 9 spots for overseas players.” Australian fast bowler Kim Garth opted to be in the top bracket with the highest reserve price of Rs 50 lakh, as did West Indian all-rounder Deandra Dottin, who was controversially excluded on medical grounds after being originally acquired by Gujarat Giants for Rs 60 lakh.

It’s interesting to note that the 27-year-old Garth released the Australian player during the off-season after taking Dottin’s place in the Gujarat Giants lineup.

Only four players have been allocated a base price of Rs 40 lakh: English wicketkeeper Amy Jones, veteran South African pacer Shabnim Ismail, Australian all-rounders Annabel Sutherland and Georgia Wareham, and South African pacer Shabnim Ismail.

There are 30 spots available among the five teams—Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Giants, UP Warriors, and Royal Challengers Bangalore—with nine of those slots set aside for international players.

The five teams kept a total of sixty players, including twenty-one foreign players.

The Giants will be able to fill 10 spots with the highest salary cap, while the Delhi Capitals, who came in second, will have a purse of Rs 2.25 crore to fill up to three spots during the auction.

The defending champion Mumbai Indians will bid Rs 2.1 crore to occupy five spots in the auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore, with a purse of Rs 3.35 crore, will try to select seven players, and UP Warriorz, with a purse of Rs 4 crore, will bid to occupy five spots.
