Mumbai City Retires Jersey No 29 As Bipin Singh Departs After Seven Years

Mumbai City FC officially announced the departure of winger Bipin Singh, whose contract expired on May 31.

In honour of his outstanding contributions to the club, Mumbai City will retire his iconic jersey number 29.

Bipin Singh’s Journey And Impact At Mumbai City

Hailing from Manipur, Bipin Singh joined Mumbai City in 2018 after playing for Shillong Lajong and ATK. Over seven years, he became one of the most influential players in the club’s history.

Bipin played a vital role in securing two Indian Super League (ISL) Cups and two ISL Shields for Mumbai City, helping the team establish itself as a powerhouse in Indian football.

Bipin Singh’s Key Moments And Achievements

Singh was key in Mumbai City’s historic 2020-21 season, winning both the League Shield and ISL Cup.

His winning goal in the final against ATK Mohun Bagan is one of the league’s most celebrated moments.

He added to his legacy by scoring another decisive goal in the 2023-24 ISL Cup final, further solidifying his status as a clutch performer.

Additionally, he contributed to Mumbai City’s 2022-23 League Shield victory.

With 158 appearances and 28 goals, Bipin leaves as Mumbai City’s most capped player, highlighting his dedication.

The club will retire his No 29 jersey to honour his legacy.

In a heartfelt statement, Bipin expressed gratitude, “It’s hard to say goodbye, but I leave with nothing but gratitude in my heart. Mumbai City has been my home for seven unforgettable years; this club has given me everything. To the fans, teammates, staff, and everyone who’s been part of this journey, thank you for the love and belief. Mumbai City will always be a part of me.”

Over the years, he’s made a meaningful impact on and off the pitch, delivering key moments and showing unwavering commitment to the club. His connection with our fans and his contributions to our success speak for themselves. Retiring the No 29 jersey is a small gesture to honour everything he has meant to us and the legacy he leaves behind.”

Director of Football Sujay Sharma added, “Bipin has been a pillar of our squad through the most historic moments in the club’s timeline. Alongside his key goal contributions, his positive team persona both on and off the pitch made him invaluable. We thank him for everything he’s done for the club and wish him and his family the very best as he moves on to his next chapter.”
