Jacques Kallis, a modern-day cricket legend, expressed his observations on the changing philosophy of Test match batting, particularly the decreased patience in modern-day batters. Kallis, who scored 45 Test hundreds, the second-highest after Sachin Tendulkar, noted that contemporary batters tend to adopt a more aggressive approach, trying to hit their way out of challenging situations on pitches that are not easy to bat on.
Reflecting on the recent Test match between India and South Africa in Cape Town that concluded within two days, Kallis mentioned that the approach of batters has shifted, and they are less patient, opting to attack even when faced with challenging conditions. He acknowledged the changing dynamics and suggested that time would determine whether this offensve batting strategy on decisive pitches is beneficial.

Discussing the pitch at Newlands, Kallis emphasized that it wasn’t the fastest he had seen but noted the uneven bounce and sideways movement, making it challenging for batters. While expressing disappointment with the outcome of the match, he called for attention to the quality of wickets and the need for surfaces that bring out the best in two high-quality teams.
