On the chessboard, players strategized to save their king, while on the carrom board, competitors fought fiercely to capture the queen.
Across the table tennis table, rivals battled for victory, and in badminton, the shuttlecock danced unpredictably between the players.
At first glance, these moments might resemble scenes from a national sports championship, but they were, in fact, part of METAPLASIA 2025-the grand Sports Fest hosted by the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (HBCH&RC), Punjab.
Held at the institute’s New Chandigarh campus, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from doctors, healthcare workers, and staff members, all competing with unmatched energy and sportsmanship.
However, the fest wasn’t limited to indoor games.
Players also showcased their skills in cricket, football, and volleyball, adding to the excitement on the field.
The name ‘Metaplasia’ in medical science refers to transformation, a theme that resonated throughout the event.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Dr Ashish Gulia, Director of HBCH&RC, emphasized the significance of sports in promoting both physical and mental well-being.
He cited the age-old wisdom, “A healthy soul resides in a healthy body,” and highlighted how engaging in sports fosters resilience, discipline, and teamwork.
The final day of METAPLASIA 2025, held on March 31, was filled with excitement as thrilling championship matches took place, culminating in a prestigious awards ceremony.
Adding to the grandeur of the event, Ms Rashmi Nagpal, Additional Director of NMIMS, Chandigarh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
She had the honor of felicitating the winners with medals and trophies, recognizing their dedication and sportsmanship.
In her inspiring address, she extended heartfelt congratulations to Dr Gulia and his team for successfully organizing the Sports Fest.
She further emphasized the strong and inseparable link between health and sports, highlighting how such events contribute to overall well-being.
She remarked that such events not only promote fitness but also strengthen professional bonds and camaraderie.
Dr Gulia, in his closing remarks, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming participation and reiterated Tata Memorial Centre’s (TMC) commitment to caring for both patients and healthcare professionals.
He encouraged everyone to continue fostering friendships and teamwork, making METAPLASIA a bigger success in the years to come.
As METAPLASIA 2025 concluded with great enthusiasm, the event left behind a legacy of teamwork, resilience, and the unwavering spirit of transformation.
The festival was a testament to the power of sports in fostering well-being, unity, and excellence, setting the stage for an even grander edition next year.
