Men’s Hockey World Cup: 15th FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup has officially get underway with the grand opening ceremony at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttak, Odisha on Wednesday. Ahead of the ceremony, the 2016 Olympic champions Argentina and South Africa lined up at the Bhubaneshwar’s Kalinga Stadium.
On January 13, Rpurkela’s Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium will make its debut, both as an international venue and as World Cup co-host on the same day. The stadium complex, which includes a first of its kind World Cup Village as well, was unveiled amid much fanfare last week.
There will be a total of 44 matches, 20 at BMHS (Birsa Munda Hockey stadium) and 24 at the Kalinga, will culminate with the final in Bhubaneswar on January 29.

India has won a record eight gold medals at the Olympics. In 1975, India won its first World Cup.
However, since the success, the national Indian team never lasted success again. In fact, 1975 world cup was the last time India featured in the semi-finals.
Several tries made the national team to get into 2018 quarter-final appearance, where they lost to finalists Netherlands.

Belgium won the World Cup at the Kalinga Stadium as they defeated the Netherlands in a thrilling shoot-out in the final.
The tournament, however, will see Australia return to the World Cup after missing out the last edition for the first time in a century.
Currently, Australia and Belgium secured the world No1 and No2 positions respectively.
In order to watch the Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023, the Star Sports Network will broadcast all the matches on TV in India.
