The Argentine superstar Lionel Messi not only made his eagerly anticipated Inter Miami debut in the League Cup encounter against Mexican club Cruz Azul, but he also scored an incredible last-second free-kick winner.

Messi will stay with Inter Milan for 2.5 years

After months of rumors, Messi finally signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Inter Miami last weekend. He will earn between $50 million and $60 million annually. Messi was introduced to thousands of fans on Sunday, and Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham revealed that the event’s online video has received 3.5 billion views.

Sergio joined Messi for his debut with Inter Milan

Messi and fellow rookie Sergio Busquets made their MLS debuts later on Friday. In the 54th minute of the game, with Inter Milan leading 1-0, he came off the bench to replace midfielder Benjamin Cremaschi. Messi’s friend instantly gave him the captain’s hat. The Argentine made history by becoming the first Golden Ball winner of a FIFA World Cup to play in Major League Soccer with his debut.

In less than 10 minutes after entering the pitch in front of the stadium’s 20,000 spectators, Inter Miami gave up a goal, and Uriel Antuna of Cruz Azul scored the equaliser. Messi did manage to create a few chances for himself, but he was unable to score. And then, just as it appeared that the game might end in a supplementary penalty shootout, Messi produced a true masterpiece with his left foot.
