Virat Kohli said that previous disappointments played a key role in keeping the Royal Challengers Bengaluru focused during their title-winning campaign in the Indian Premier League. The side overcame the Punjab Kings in the final to lift their maiden trophy after a long wait.
Kohli described the achievement as highly significant for the franchise. He mentioned that he and long-time support staff member Ramesh Mane have been associated with the team since its inception, making the win even more memorable.
Looking back at the build-up to the final, Kohli said the team maintained a composed mindset. He added that while they were confident, they remained aware of the challenge posed by a strong opposition.
Kohli explained that earlier losses in crucial matches motivated the team to handle pressure better. He said reaching the final was the result of sustained strong performances against quality sides.
He said the closing phase of the match felt unreal as emotions took over. He noted that memories from his long journey with the franchise resurfaced, highlighting both successes and setbacks.
He added that lifting the trophy after years of effort was a deeply emotional and unforgettable moment.
Kohli said the final over tested the team’s nerves despite their advantage. He explained that waiting for the last few deliveries to seal the result was the most difficult part of the match.
Kohli is now preparing for his 19th IPL season and aims to continue his strong performances. He remains the tournament’s highest run-scorer with 8,661 runs in 267 matches, including eight centuries and 63 fifties.
