The IPL 2023 is all set to begin this Friday, March 31. The first match is scheduled between the Gujarat Giants and the Chennai Super Kings at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. As all 10 teams had already decided on their captains, KKR has now come up with some changes in their leader who will be leading from the front.
This evening the KKR team went on their Instagram page to share that Nitish Rana will be leading their team from the front. The news from Kolkata came after BCCI sources told the media that Iyer might choose to have surgery on his back because of the problems he keeps having.
KKR made an announcement on Monday that they expected Iyer’s return at some phase of the IPL 2023, yet feel lucky that they can surrender the captaincy to one side-hander who has been a fundamental piece of the KKR batting request starting around 2018.
“We are fortunate that Nitish will do a great job because he has captaincy experience having led his state team in white ball cricket and IPL experience with KKR since 2018. “We are also confident that under the direction of Head Coach Chandrakant Pandit and the support staff, he will receive all the necessary support off the field, and the highly experienced leaders in the squad will provide all the necessary support for Nitish on the field.”
Rana will be taking on this role for the first time, as he has never captained on a major stage before. Rana has been a major piece of KKR’s batting request, which fought at a surprisingly high level in the later phases of the competition, with uncapped India players like Rinku Singh illuminating the competition.
Chadrakanth Pandit, a well-known name in Indian domestic cricket, will oversee Nitish Rana. Pandit made his name in the homegrown scene by changing over little groups into champion sides. It will be expected Pandit to bring KKR back to its former glory.
