Kavya Maran Radiates Happiness as Sunrisers’ SA20 Franchise Secures Back-to-Back Titles

Sunrisers Eastern Cape secured consecutive SA20 titles with a resounding 89-run win over Durban’s Super Giants at Newlands on Saturday night. Dominating the group stage, Sunrisers displayed clinical prowess in the final showdown. The bowling lineup, led by Marco Jansen’s impressive 5/30, maintained its economical edge, supported by Dan Worrall (2/15) and Ottniel Baartman (2/17).

Half-centuries from Tom Abell (55 off 34 balls, comprising eight fours and two sixes) and Tristan Stubbs (56* off 30 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes), alongside significant contributions from Jordan Hermann and skipper Aiden Markram, who both scored 42, propelled Sunrisers to a commanding 204/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

Although Durban’s Super Giants’ skipper, Keshav Maharaj, made an impact with a double-wicket over, removing Hermann and Abell, Sunrisers displayed depth in their batting as Markram and Stubbs steadied the innings before accelerating towards the end, adding 98 runs in the final phase.

Throughout the season, Sunrisers’ bowling unit showcased its strength, and on this crucial night, the seamers delivered emphatically. Worrall initiated the tone by dismissing Quinton de Kock (3) early on, while Jansen’s two quick strikes in the fourth over left Super Giants reeling at 7/3.

Despite a brief fightback from Wiaan Mulder, who scored a brisk 38 off 22 balls, Baartman’s crucial wicket of Heinrich Klaasen tilted the game decisively in Sunrisers’ favor. With Super Giants struggling at 63/5, Jansen’s fiery spell (5/30) sealed their fate, bundling them out for a mere 115 runs in 17 overs.

The moment was particularly poignant for Jansen, who claimed the final wicket, reminiscent of his winning six from the previous season, thus culminating in back-to-back triumphs for Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
