When asked why Australia was seen as “slightly favorites” for the World Test Championship final, Ravi Shastri just highlighted Jasprit Bumrah. India was adversely affected by the great pacer’s absence not only in the WTC final, in which they lost by a score of 209 runs but also in the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup the previous year. However, India’s anxiety as they enter the final round of their World Cup training is expected to cease as Bumrah is ready to make a huge comeback well before the important competition begins in India in October.
Bumrah has been out since September of last year due to back problems. With the T20 World Cup in sight, he was forced into action that month against Australia at home after missing the Asia Cup, but it backfired as it worsened his injury, keeping him out of important series and matches like the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series and WTC final. Even worse, he also missed the entire IPL 2023 season for the Mumbai Indians.
Bumrah is now scheduled to make his India comeback later in August when the squad travels to Ireland. This series will be a three-match T20I series, per a report in News18. The competition will start on August 18, and all three games will be held in Malahide. With the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup, this series will provide a good indication of Bumrah’s fitness.
