“Is It Going To Be Decline Of CSK?”, Says Former Australian Player On MS Dhoni’s Army

For the Chennai Super Kings, the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) will be an unforgettable experience. In a season that could very well be skipper MS Dhoni’s last, Chennai fans will finally be able to see their favourite team at the Chepauk after three years. CSK has defeated much younger and star-studded teams despite the odds over the years. Since they have won the league four times, their success speaks for itself. Matthew Hayden, a great player for Australia, is, however, perplexed as to how to perceive the side’s age given that Dhoni and co. are not getting any younger.

CSK have earned the nickname “Dad’s Army” for their strategy of backing players who are past their 30s, which has drawn criticism from many quarters. Even though they won the IPL in 2018, Hayden believes that the older players in the squad should also produce performances because they have experience.

Matthew Hayden on CSK

“MS Dhoni is of an age like Ambati Rayudu, where they truly should be central members and not simply have the potential as heads of the group. Is it going to be the decline of CSK or the experience of those two key players in particular, with their team’s age? expressed the Australian legend.

CSK’s performance over the years

The 2022 season was a disheartening one for the four-time champions, as they finished 10th in the 10-group competition with only eight places. Ravindra Jadeja assumed the captaincy at the beginning of the season, but he resigned in midseason due to job pressure and a troubling run of form. Again, MS Dhoni took over as captain, but it was too late for CSK.

CSK squard for the 16th edition of the IPL

In the new season, CSK are supposed to adhere to their tried opening sets of Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad, followed by the large cash markup of Ben Stirs up. Stokes is a huge asset to the batting line-up, and the seasoned Ambati Rayudu can provide him with solid support at No. 4.

With Shivam Dube, Moeen Ali, and Ravindra Jadeja making up the middle order, MS Dhoni hopes to lead his team to their fifth IPL championship. This season, Dube, who has had moments of brilliance in the domestic league, will try to get back on track in the IPL.

The bowling department was not particularly strong the previous season, but Deepak Chahar’s return will be beneficial to the team. When it came to their bowling, Mukesh Choudhary was one of the bright spots of 2022, and Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana is expected to be their primary spinner once more.
