Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson has been fined Rs 12 lakh. This penalty was imposed due to his team maintaining a slow over rate during the IPL match against Gujarat Titans.
The Royals’ four-match winning streak was broken by the Shubman Gill-led Titans. They clinched victory in a last-ball thriller on Wednesday, winning the match by three wickets.
IPL, in a statement, said, “Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on 10 April.”
The statement stated that Samson received a fine of Rs 12 lakhs as it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct.
Samson’s unbeaten 68 off 38 deliveries powered the Royals to a formidable total of 196 for 3. Riyan Parag’s 78 also contributed significantly to their strong performance.
GT skipper Gill’s fine 72 at the top took the former IPL champions past the finish line off the last delivery. A cameo innings by Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan (24 off 11 deliveries) at the back end also contributed to their victory.
Meanwhile, RR will face Punjab Kings in their next match on 13 April.
