Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly will take charge of Delhi Capitals as head coach for IPL 2027, beginning his first formal coaching assignment with the franchise.
The former captain joined the Capitals organisation in 2019 as an advisor before taking on the role of Director of Cricket for both the men’s and women’s sides.
He will now move from the management structure to the dugout as Delhi Capitals pursue their maiden IPL championship.
Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal welcomed the appointment and praised Ganguly’s contribution to the franchise over the years.
“Dada is and has always been an integral part of the Delhi Capitals family. I am incredibly proud and honoured to announce that one of the greatest Indian captains and administrators is now stepping into coaching by taking over as the head coach of the Delhi Capitals,” Parth Jindal said.
Co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi also backed the former India captain, saying his knowledge of the franchise and its cricketing system would prove valuable.
Ganguly said his previous experience with the franchise would help him approach the new responsibility with confidence.
He said, “I am looking forward to taking on the role of Head Coach in the IPL. Delhi Capitals is a franchise very close to my heart, and one that I have shared a strong relationship with over the years.”
He said he plans to work with the squad to develop a confident and fearless side for the upcoming season.
Delhi Capitals made their first IPL final in 2020 but have never secured the tournament trophy. Their WPL side has also reached the final in each of the competition’s four editions, finishing as runners-up every time.
Ganguly’s move into coaching marks another significant stage in his seven-year association with the Delhi Capitals as the franchise prepares for IPL 2027.
