IPL 2026: Shubman Gill Highlights Key Moments In Gujarat Titans Loss To RCB

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill identified key moments that cost his side dearly following their five-wicket loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in match 34 of the Indian Premier League 2026 season at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Gill pointed to a crucial phase late in the innings where Gujarat failed to accelerate. He noted that a lack of boundaries between the 16th and 19th overs stalled their momentum after a strong Powerplay start.

Gujarat Titans captain also stressed the importance of taking early wickets to maintain pressure on the opposition.

A dropped catch proved to be a turning point, giving Virat Kohli a lifeline at the start of his innings.

Kohli capitalised fully, producing a fluent 81 from 44 deliveries to anchor the chase.

Support came from Devdutt Padikkal, who added a rapid 55 off just 27 balls. Their partnership ensured Bengaluru stayed in control during the middle overs, with Gujarat struggling to contain the scoring.

Gill acknowledged that conditions offered some assistance, particularly during Krunal Pandya’s spell, where the ball held slightly in the surface. He felt that breakthroughs at that stage could have shifted momentum back in Gujarat’s favour.

Earlier in the match, the Gujarat Titans posted an imposing 205 for three, built around a brilliant century from Sai Sudharsan. His 100 off 58 balls also saw him become the quickest player to reach 2,000 IPL runs. Contributions from Gill and Jos Buttler strengthened the total, though it ultimately fell short.

Gujarat briefly fought back when Rashid Khan and Manav Suthar removed Jitesh Sharma and Rajat Patidar in quick succession.

Krunal Pandya’s unbeaten 23 from 12 balls, highlighted by a decisive late over, ensured Bengaluru crossed the line comfortably.

Looking ahead, Gill hinted at the need for improved contributions at the top of the order, suggesting better strike rotation in the Powerplay could be key in upcoming fixtures. The defeat leaves Gujarat reflecting on missed opportunities in a contest where momentum repeatedly shifted.
