Punjab Kings clinched a vital seven-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants in Match 68 of IPL 2026 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The result keeps Punjab firmly in contention for a playoff berth.
With this victory, Punjab climbed to fourth place with 15 points from 14 matches, having recorded seven wins, while one game ended without a result due to rain.
Their qualification scenario now depends on the outcome of the match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Mumbai Indians, where a Rajasthan win would secure them the final playoff spot.
After being asked to bat first, Lucknow Super Giants put up 196/6 in their 20 overs. They suffered early setbacks as Arshin Kulkarni and Nicholas Pooran departed cheaply within the first few overs.
Josh Inglis then stabilised the innings with a brisk 72 off 44 balls, including 9 fours and 2 sixes. He shared a 49-run stand with Ayush Badoni, who scored a quick 43, and later added 65 runs alongside Rishabh Pant, who contributed 26.
Abdul Samad further strengthened the total with an unbeaten 37, taking the team close to the 200-run mark.
For Punjab, Marco Jansen and Yuzvendra Chahal claimed two wickets each. Azmatullah Omarzai and Shashank Singh picked up one wicket apiece.
Chasing 197, Punjab lost Priyansh Arya on the first ball. Cooper Connolly and Prabhsimran Singh added 22 runs before Cooper Connolly departed for 18.
Captain Shreyas Iyer then anchored the innings, forging a decisive 140-run partnership with Prabhsimran, who scored 69 off 39 balls.
Punjab reached 162/3 in 15 overs before Iyer and Suryansh Shedge guided the team home with an unbeaten 38-run stand. Iyer remained not out on 101 off 51 balls, striking 11 fours and 5 sixes, while Shedge contributed 9*.
For Lucknow, Mohammed Shami took two wickets, while Arjun Tendulkar claimed one.
Punjab Kings kept their playoff hopes alive with this win. The team now awaits the outcome of other matches to determine its fate in the tournament.
