Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) set a target of 142 runs for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the fifth fixture of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. Both teams are aiming to secure a positive start to their campaign.
After the toss at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, the opposition asked LSG to bat first and then bowled them out for 141 in 18.4 overs.
LSG got off to a poor start as the opposition dismissed skipper Rishabh Pant early when the team total stood at 19. He added just 7 runs before returning to the pavilion.
Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram then steadied the innings briefly with a 29-run stand for the second wicket, taking the score to 48.
The momentum did not last long as the batting order collapsed. By the time the total reached 71, five wickets had fallen, including Marsh, who made 35.
Mukul Choudhary and Abdul Samad contributed a 34-run partnership for the sixth wicket, helping the side move past the 100-run mark. Mukul scored 14 runs before being dismissed.
Abdul Samad combined with Shahbaz Ahmed to put together a 33-run stand for the seventh wicket, ensuring the team posted a competitive total.
Abdul Samad scored 36 runs from 25 deliveries before getting out, while Shahbaz Ahmed remained unbeaten on 15.
For DC, Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan led the bowling attack with three wickets each. Kuldeep Yadav picked up two wickets, while Axar Patel claimed one.
Under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, LSG featured Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Abdul Samad, Mukul Choudhary, Mohsin Khan, Mohammed Shami, Anrich Nortje and Prince Yadav.
Meanwhile, DC, captained by Axar Patel, fielded KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Pathum Nissanka, Nitish Rana, Tristan Stubbs, David Miller, Vipraj Nigam, Lungi Ngidi, Kuldeep Yadav, T Natarajan and Mukesh Kumar in their playing XI.
