The IPL 2025 Auction made history as 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the league’s youngest-ever signing. Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured him for Rs 1.10 crore at the Abadi Al Johar Arena on Monday.
The bidding began at Rs 30 lakh, with Delhi Capitals (DC) leading. Rajasthan Royals entered at Rs 35 lakh, and the contest quickly passed Rs 1 crore. RR eventually secured the Samastipur-born prodigy with a final bid of Rs 1.10 crore.
Suryavanshi recently became the youngest player to score an international century. He smashed 104 off 62 balls in a Youth Test against Australia U-19 in Chennai. His 58-ball ton is the fastest by an Indian in Youth Tests and the second-fastest globally.
At 12, he debuted in the Ranji Trophy for Bihar, becoming the youngest player in the tournament’s history.
Sri Lankan pacer Eshan Malinga also turned heads. Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him for Rs 1.20 crore, starting at a base price of Rs 30 lakh. Malinga impressed with his new-ball skills in the Lanka Premier League and Emerging T20 Asia Cup.
He is part of the Sri Lanka A programme and trained at the MRF Pace Foundation.
These acquisitions have set the stage for an exciting IPL 2025 season.
