India’s ODI World Cup 2023 team is expected to be announced today. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee chief, Ajit Agarkar, flew to Sri Lanka to hold a discussion with the team management and finalize the squad. There are no big surprises in the Asia Cup 2023 squad that the BCCI recently picked. With the ODI World Cup squad having a 15-member roster, there was no place for wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson while the fit-again KL Rahul was picked.
Agarkar hinted that the Indian team for the ODI World Cup would be similar when he revealed the team for the Asia Cup. However, the Asia Cup team only had 17 players, with Samson serving as Rahul’s backup. Two players from the primary squad have to be eliminated because the World Cup squad is only allowed to have 15 players.
Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna are the two individuals who will no longer be on the roster, according to the information. While Krishan was added to the team following a protracted injury layoff, Varma received his first ODI call-up for the Asia Cup. Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul, three returning players, have all secured spots on India’s World Cup roster.
One of the major omissions was Yuzvendra Chahal, who was not selected for the World Cup roster as well as the Indian team for the Asia Cup. Despite his difficulties in the 50-over format, Suryakumar Yadav still has a spot on the team.
Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul (wk), Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishan Kishan (wk), Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah
