India’s Dominance Over Pakistan Worries Gautam Gambhir: A Blow To Subcontinental Cricket

Former Indian cricket team opener Gautam Gambhir has expressed his concern about the stark difference in performance between India and Pakistan, stating that India’s dominance, led by Rohit Sharma, is not favorable for subcontinental cricket. He highlighted India’s recent supremacy over Pakistan, particularly in their clash during the Cricket World Cup 2023, where Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer played outstanding innings following a strong showing by the Indian bowlers. Gambhir believes that if India and Pakistan were to play a bilateral series at the moment, it wouldn’t be a competitive contest.

Gambhir mentioned the significant shift in the rivalry, with India now hammering Pakistan, a situation that was quite the opposite in the past. He lamented this development, emphasizing the importance of a competitive India-Pakistan series in subcontinental cricket.

He also showered praise on Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav for their disciplined bowling performance against Pakistan, highlighting the luxury for any captain to have these bowlers, capable of taking wickets consistently. Gambhir compared Jasprit Bumrah’s performance to Shaheen Shah Afridi’s and commended Bumrah’s economical spell in challenging conditions.

India’s wins over Australia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan in the Cricket World Cup 2023 have positioned them well for potential semi-final qualification.
