Indian Women’s Hockey Team Clinches Bihar Asian Champions Trophy 2024 Title

The Indian Women’s Hockey Team secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over China in the final of the Bihar Asian Champions Trophy (ACT) Rajgir 2024 on Wednesday. This triumph marked India’s third championship win in the tournament, following previous victories in 2016 and 2023. With this win, India joins South Korea as the most successful team in the history of the ACT, with both nations now holding three titles each.

Salima Tete Reflects on Historic Win

Indian team captain Salima Tete expressed her gratitude for the incredible support the team received throughout the tournament. She noted that playing in Rajgir, the host city for the first-ever international hockey tournament, added to the excitement of their victory. “The energy and encouragement from the crowd were unmatched, and it gave us an added boost throughout the competition,” said Tete. “I truly believe this victory will inspire more young girls to take up hockey and elevate the sport in India.”

Looking to the future, Tete outlined the team’s aspirations for upcoming international events. She emphasized the team’s focus on long-term goals, including qualifying for the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. “While we celebrate this win, our focus remains on the future. We are dedicated to working hard every day, staying focused, and giving our best in every tournament. Our ultimate aim is to bring more laurels to India and make our country proud,” she added.

Salima Tete to Play in Historic Hockey India League

As part of her next challenge, Salima will participate in the upcoming Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-25, which will feature women’s teams for the first time in the league’s history. Representing Soorma Hockey Club, she expressed excitement about playing in her hometown of Ranchi, where many of the women’s HIL matches will be held. “I’m super excited to participate in the HIL, especially as women’s teams are competing for the first time,” she said. “Playing in Ranchi, with such passionate fans, will be a surreal experience. Their energy will motivate me, and I’m eager to give my best to help my team win.”

Dominant Performance Throughout the Tournament

India entered the Bihar ACT Rajgir 2024 as defending champions and displayed exceptional dominance throughout the tournament. They kicked off their campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Malaysia, followed by a thrilling 3-2 win over South Korea. India continued their strong form with a 13-0 demolition of Thailand, then secured back-to-back 3-0 victories over China and Japan in the group stage.

In the semifinals, India overcame Japan 2-0 before edging past China in a tightly contested final. The team’s overall performance was remarkable, finishing the tournament with 29 goals scored and only two conceded, maintaining clean sheets in six of their matches.

Deepika’s Stellar Performance

Indian forward Deepika had an outstanding tournament, finishing as the top scorer with an impressive 11 goals. Her performance was key to India’s offensive dominance, and she played a crucial role in the team’s journey to the title.

The Indian Women’s Hockey Team’s victory at the Bihar ACT Rajgir 2024 reflects their continued growth and success on the international stage, and it sets a strong foundation for their upcoming challenges in global competitions.
