Entering 2026 on the back of historic success, the Indian women’s cricket team carries unprecedented momentum after winning the 2025 ODI World Cup.
This achievement, India’s first senior ICC women’s title, has elevated the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side from challengers to a team expected to win consistently at the highest level.
Complementing this feat, India successfully defended the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup title in Malaysia, while the A team secured a 50-over series victory in Australia. Collectively, these milestones have ensured 2025 is remembered as a landmark year for women’s cricket in the country.
Following the conclusion of a five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, Indian players will turn their attention to the 2026 Women’s Premier League.
Scheduled from January 9 to February 5 in Navi Mumbai and Vadodara, the tournament will be the first WPL edition after the World Cup win, with keen interest in new talents who could push for national selection.
Thereafter, India will embark on a demanding all-format tour of Australia in February and March.
The team will then intensify preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England, scheduled from June 12 to July 5, using the three-match T20I series against England from May 28 to June 2 as a crucial warm-up.
Subsequently, the spotlight will shift to Lord’s Cricket Ground, where India and England will play the first-ever women’s Test at the venue starting July 10. This match will mark a historic moment at one of cricket’s most iconic grounds.
Later, the Indian team will look to defend its Asian Games T20 gold medal at the 2026 edition in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, during September and October.
Afterwards, India will host Zimbabwe for three ODIs and three T20Is before heading to South Africa for an all-format tour featuring a Test, three ODIs, and three T20Is.
Ultimately, sustaining success across formats, managing player workload, and building depth beyond the core group remain key challenges.
With expectations soaring and a packed calendar ahead, 2026 offers India a defining opportunity to establish long-term dominance in women’s cricket.
