India U-19 Win World Cup As Vaibhav Suryavanshi Powers 100-Run Victory Over England

A summit clash for the ages unfolded at the Harare Sports Club as India U-19 produced a dominant all-round performance to clinch the World Cup title, defeating England by a massive 100-run margin.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi headlined the final with a generational innings. He blasted a breathtaking 175 to lay the foundation for India’s triumph before the bowlers sealed the deal under pressure.

After winning the toss, India opted to bat first but were jolted early when Aaron George departed for 9. What followed was a commanding rebuild led by Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre, who chose attack as their best form of defence.

Refusing to retreat, the pair took the English bowlers head-on. Mhatre targeted the pacers towards the end of the powerplay, while Vaibhav played the ideal supporting role.

Their second-wicket partnership yielded 142 runs in 15 overs, shifting momentum firmly in India’s favour. Mhatre’s promising innings ended when he miscued a pull shot, walking back for 53 off 51 balls. From that moment, the final became Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s stage.

Vaibhav launched into a stunning assault, racing to his century in just 55 balls and reaching 150 off only 71 deliveries. He added another 25 runs in the next nine balls, eventually falling for a remarkable 175 off 80 balls, an innings decorated with 15 fours and 15 sixes.

At the time of his dismissal, India were scoring at close to 10 runs per over, underlining the sheer impact of his knock.

India’s scoring rate dipped briefly after Vaibhav’s exit, but valuable contributions ensured the pressure never eased. Vedant Trivedi chipped in with 32, Vihaan Malhotra added 30, and RS Ambrish scored 18.

A late flourish from Kanishk Chouhan, who smashed 37 off 20 balls, propelled India beyond the 400-run mark. The innings closed at a daunting 411/9.

England’s bowlers battled hard on a difficult day. James Minto stood out with figures of 3 for 63, while Sebastian Morgan and Alex Green picked up two wickets each. Manny Lumsden claimed the prized wicket of Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

Chasing a massive target of 412 in a high-pressure knockout match, England’s task was always steep. Joseph Moores fell early, but the ‘Ben duo’ responded with intent.

After negotiating the initial phase, they found the boundary regularly. The pair added 74 runs for the second wicket in just 49 balls before Mayes was dismissed for 45 off 28.

Ben Dawkins then joined skipper Thomas Rew, who played a brisk cameo of 31 off 18 balls. Dawkins emerged as England’s biggest threat, bringing up his fifty and moving confidently to 66 off 56 balls.

The turning point arrived when Ayush Mhatre introduced himself into the attack and delivered instantly, dismissing Dawkins. India struck again soon after as Ralphie Albert ran himself out.

Deepesh Devendran then removed Farhan Ahmed and Sebastian Morgan in the next over, triggering a collapse that left England reeling at 177/7.

England showed late resistance through Caleb Falconer, who refused to give up.

Partnering James Minto, Falconer punished loose deliveries and reached his fifty in just 26 balls.

The eighth-wicket stand added 92 runs in 80 balls, briefly delaying India’s celebrations before RS Ambrish dismissed Minto for 28.

Falconer continued to fight alongside the tail, bringing up a superb century in 63 balls. He added a couple more boundaries before falling for a valiant 115 off 67 balls, caught brilliantly by Khilan Patel.

England were eventually bowled out for 311, a spirited recovery from 177/7, but well short of the target.

India’s bowlers shared the workload efficiently.

RS Ambrish finished with 3 for 56, while Deepesh Devendran and Kanishk Chouhan claimed two wickets each. Ayush Mhatre and Khilan Patel chipped in with one wicket apiece, completing a comprehensive and memorable title victory for India U-19.
