Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer struck half-centuries as India posted 191/8 in the fifth and final T20I against New Zealand at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Sunday.
Kishan scored 61, while Iyer contributed 50. Their 93-run partnership for the third wicket helped India recover after openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson fell cheaply for one and four, respectively.
India lost the toss for the first time in the series and were asked to bat. New Zealand’s seamers exploited the early movement, with Adam Milne dismissing both openers. India reached 50/2 at the end of the powerplay.
Kishan and Iyer accelerated during the middle overs and put pressure on the New Zealand bowlers. They also took 27 runs from Michael Bracewell’s 10th over.
However, New Zealand regained control by removing both set batters. Blair Tickner dismissed Kishan at deep mid-wicket, while Nathan Smith used a short delivery to send Iyer back, with Tim Seifert taking the catch.
Smith also dismissed Tilak Varma after surviving a no-ball reprieve earlier in the over.
Naman Dhir scored 33, and Nitish Kumar Reddy made 22. Their 46-run partnership for the sixth wicket helped India maintain the scoring rate.
However, Tickner dismissed Dhir in the 19th over, before Nitish fell in the final over. India eventually finished at 191/8.
Adam Milne was New Zealand’s standout bowler, claiming 4-19 in four overs. Nathan Smith took 2-28, while Tickner also picked up two wickets.
Brief Score: India 191/8 in 20 overs (Ishan Kishan 61, Shreyas Iyer 50; Adam Milne 4-19, Nathan Smith 2-28) against New Zealand.
