India delivered a clinical performance at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, overwhelming Namibia by 93 runs in their Group A fixture of the Men’s T20 World Cup.
Opting to bat first, India launched into attack mode from the outset. Ishan Kishan spearheaded the charge with a scintillating 61 off 24 balls, peppering the boundary with six maximums and five fours. His aggressive strokeplay powered India to a tournament-best powerplay total of 86/1.
Sanju Samson added a brisk 22 before falling to a well-disguised slower delivery.
Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus then applied the brakes, producing superb figures of 4-20 to pull his side back into contention.
With India momentarily stalled, Hardik Pandya assumed responsibility. He crafted a fluent 52 from 28 deliveries, striking four sixes and four boundaries. Shivam Dube supported him with a lively 23 off 16 balls as the pair stitched together a rapid 81-run stand.
Although Namibia removed several batters in the closing overs, India still posted a formidable 209/9 at the end of their innings.
Namibia began their pursuit positively but soon encountered disciplined Indian bowling. Varun Chakaravarthy proved decisive, claiming 3-7 with his clever variations. Axar Patel chipped in with two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and Pandya also struck at crucial moments.
Namibia were eventually dismissed for 116 in 18.2 overs, falling well short of the target.
The 93-run success stands as India’s largest victory by runs in Men’s T20 World Cup history. The comprehensive display reinforced their dominance in the group stage and provided ideal momentum heading into their upcoming high-profile clash.
Brief Scores:
India 209/9 in 20 overs (Ishan Kishan 61, Hardik Pandya 52; Gerhard Erasmus 4-20); Namibia 116 all out in 18.2 overs (Louren Steenkamp 29, Jan Frylinck 22; Varun Chakaravarthy 3-7, Axar Patel 2-20). India won by 93 runs.
